Built Like A Tank

I almost ran into this one on the way to the supermarket, it was, fortunately, to the side of the road. It's a snapper turtle and I don't recall seeing one out of the water before. It's pretty big, I would say the shell was 16" across.

I suspect she had gone to lay eggs in the swampy bit over the road and was now on her way back to the lake. An iphone shot because I didn't have my big camera, but I didn't think to switch to raw mode. Smartphone shots always look way over processed to my eye.
