Vivid Sydney 2024

Vivid is Sydney's annual festival of light. Some of this year's installations have been particularly innovative and a delight in which to immerse oneself.

My main is of Hika Rakuyo, a Japanese concept that uses flowers as a metaphor for transient beauty. The installation, a collaboration between a number of artists, comprises projections of images of Australian native flora onto a misty fountain spraying out of the dark waters of Cockle Bay. The flower is the waratah, NSW's floral emblem.

My extras are from the installation Nest, by Leila Jeffreys and Melcon J. Montalban, depicting Australian native birds. The first is the brolga in their mating dance. The second is of two parrots which look to be different species - a crimson rosella and a king parrot. Some artistic licence here I think.

Trisharooni and SeriousFrolic have also posted interesting photos of Vivid.
