Gearing up

The charity shop sewing machine ground to a halt when I tried to use it last week.
A sewing machine repair place refused to look at it as it wasn’t worth repairing.
So, with nothing to lose, I took it to bits.
I had to separate the various moving parts to identify the problem (a stiff axle driving this gear) which ran the risk of not assembling it in exactly the right adjustment. And, sure enough, I’ve got it whirring away quite happily, but not actually completing stitches. D’oh.
