Chives ( Allium schoenoprasum )

I had to call this chives as I don't think such a thing as a Chive actually exists.  A mainly wet day punctuated in the late afternoon to meet the plumber.  The leak was caused by a perished fiber washer.  As we walked up the steps to the Lodge I told him where the water was coming from and his reply "it will be a washer".

Chives as the scientific name suggests are relations of onions, leeks etc.  They are unusual being the only Alium that is native to the old and new world.  It hadn't crossed my mind before but not only are the leaves edible but the flowers as well.
