HOUT BAY

We moved to this lovely rural and then undeveloped valley in 1969, leaving twenty nine years later to find a niche elsewhere when the development became too hectic. This valley and fishing village became the battleground between the enviromentalists and the developers. Guess who lost?
At the same time as the rampant development in the early 90's, a huge squatter camp grew on the slopes of the mountain.Well laid plans with schools and playing fields were ignored as people streamed to the Western Cape in search of work and a better life.
I felt quite nostalgic seeing this beautiful valley again after so many years. We were fortunate to have enjoyed the pristine beauty and isolation of those early years.
