157/366 A Tribute !

157/366 5th June  A Tribute ! Got lucky today with it being the D Day 80th Anniversary my photo of the day was going to be the D Day Memorial at Upottery Devon, this commemorates the US airborne troops who were stationed at the nearby Upottery Airbase and on the evening 5th June 1944 were among the first to be parachuted into Normandy. While there I heard the sound of aircraft and looking up saw 2 Douglas Dakota C47 planes slowly circling and to my surprise they discharged several lines of Parachutists. Being pretty close to the Airfield I rushed over and joined loads more watching, was not in time to see the parachutists landing but I got chatting to someone who said hang on as the 2 Dakota’s were going to land. Such a moving tribute to those that gave there lives 80 years ago. “We Will Remember Them”
