Westwood Ho!

I found this amazing scene purely by chance. Westwood Quarry.

Exploring Wenlock-Edge in Shropshire, and discovered this disused limestone quarry near Stretton Westwood.

I am unsure how long it has been abandoned but the whole quarry is being returned to nature with the permission of Shropshire District Council. It is a reserve that now begins to look natural and rewilding is happening here. Volunteers have cleared large areas of scrub and brash, allowing native species (flora and fauna) to flourish. Much of the workings have been removed but there are still signs of it's industrial 'heritage'!

It will be a place I expect to visit again and explore more fully.
