A moment's peace
I had a quiet morning, doing some work on the collaborative project that some of us in the Photographic Society are developing with the local Wildlife Trust. Unusually for me, this included an online planning meeting - something that (in a good way) actually resembled work. I retired from all paid employment in 2017, so this morning's meeting with the Trust ecologist, about implementing a monitoring protocol, was an interesting reminder of that world. I enjoyed it, though doing these things occasionally, through choice, is a very different matter from doing them day in and day out to pay the bills.
Later I went to meet Eben as usual, to take him to his after-school swimming lesson. For parents, grandparents and others waiting in the playground, those few quiet minutes before the classes spill out through the doors feel like a little breather.
