Camouflage

How to blend in with your environment. S and G were off to the Pyrenees this morning. It was very dull and overcast, but it cleared up in the afternoon, and after a bit of dithering I decided to go for a walk rather than go to the free yoga class indoors. On that front, T told me yesterday that H had complained after the class in which both she and I failed to do the Lizard that it was too difficult, so this week's class was advertised as "relaxation". I felt I was more in need of some outdoor exercise.

This is a wall brown, lasiommata megera. The upper side of its wings in a rather blurry extra.

I watched some clips of the D-Day ceremonies earlier. They were surprisingly moving. Whatever you think of his politics, Macron is very good at this sort of encounter. Respectful without being stiff and formal when he presented the Légion d'Honneur to American veterans. He gave them time to get to their feet and steady themselves, before giving them a double bise once he had pinned the ribbon on, and exchanging a few words with what seemed genuine emotion. Earlier Brigitte had been giving them positive bear hugs while welcoming them off the plane. I also liked the choral singing of Ode to Joy with the French Army choir joined by children from across Europe. Meanwhile, it appears Sunak showed up but left early because election campaigning was more important. What is wrong with the man?

In other news, the European election paperwork arrived. There are 38 lists to choose from. I waded through them, and most went straight into the recycling bin. Turnout is likely to be pathetic, and the far right will do well, despite being split into multiple lists, as are the ecologists. Props to the Animal Party which featured no humans on its campaign literature, just a kitten.
