Seeing Beyond Looking

The Rose

I walked down to the big city park called Mon Repos this morning. I felt the need to walk among the gorgeous big trees down there. The birdsong was amazing.

On the way down, I passed a garden full of beautiful pink roses with gardeners tending to them.

I immediately thought of that romantic, but somehow sad song sung by Bette Midler (I just love her!) called The Rose.

Here are some of the lyrics:

"Some say love, it is a river
That drowns the tender reed
Some say love, it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love, it is a hunger
An endless aching need
I say love, it is a flower
And you, its only seed.

When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun's love
In the spring becomes the rose."
