Old friend

It’s been a day of showers and brighter intervals and I spent most of it indoors catching up with some badly needed housework. Nick and Bertie went over to the Community Orchard in the afternoon to do a bit of work there. When they arrived home, I took Bertie for a short walk and passed this old birch tree. It is missing a number of limbs and those that remain are gnarled and twisted. It is covered in moss and lichen, yet it still has fresh leaf growth sprouting from its trunk and branches. It is full of character and I take time to look at it whenever I walk that way.
