Five Locks
Continuing our journey, we were in Inverness - some necessary shopping for the time ahead and to see the start of the Caledonian Canal. This amazing structure from Napoleonic times was intended for ships to bypass the 'top' of Scotland. Now it is of much less importance as ships have somewhat increased in size!
We stopped near the Five Locks - an amazing 'ladder' of water.
No big ships or even small boats going through, but one jetski. The driver, though, was on a fundraising mission attempting a 'round Britain' sea trip by jet ski. We watched him go through a few locks and on his way. Water then has to be returned to the lower locks ready for the next 'customer' - an impressive display in itself.
