Dave Day

An amazing day. To commemorate the life of Dave Myers ( one half of the cookery duo The Hairy bikers) his motor biker friends organised a memorial ride from London to Barrow ( Daves home town) 300 miles away.  The ride was also a fund raiser for 2 charities. Cancer Research and the children's charity NSPCC.

The idea grew and  lots of bikers signed up to ride from London or join the convoy at different stages enroute.
They estimated maybe 10, 000 bikes might reach Barrow.
They called it Having a Dave Day as Dave always had a sense of fun  and enjoyed life. (hence Having a Dave Day meant having a fun day)

Today was a beautiful sunny day, perfect for the riders. They set off at 7am and aimed to reach Barrow by 4.pm. With the power of Facebook the news spread. As the bikers drove up the motorway they were treated by cheers and waves from people lined up on the bridges over the motorway.
All the 36 miles from the motorway to Barrow there were people lining the road . The first bikes arrived on schedule and the throb of motor bike engines was heard all over town.

It took 2 hours for the convoy to arrive cheered on all the way by spectaters. The police have said that there were over 46,000 bikes .   The population of our town has doubled tonight.
I don't think even royalty would have got such a turn out
A phenomenal tribute to a 'Barrow lad'

Blip is of a display in Tesco.
