North Cave Wetlands

Spending a few days in East Yorkshire.
Not a very good weather forecast and it was raining when we left home. However we have had a mainly sunny day 17C. But oh such a strong wind!

Not a good day for birdwatching, but we did enjoy two and a half hours walking round the reserve and visiting the hides.
Only disappointment was we didn’t see any avocets.
However we did see a few dragonflies and my main photo just had to be the fabulous orchids. Not seen so many all out at once before.
North Cave Wetlands is an area of 6 lakes restored from former sand and gravel quarry and managed by Yorkshire Wildlife. 

Afterwards we drove to Hessel to have a look at the Humber Bridge. ( extra)
Opened in June 1981 a 2.22km single span road bridge. When it opened it was the longest of its type in the World.

Finished with fish and chips for tea.
Great end to a very enjoyable day.
