For the family

By RonaMac

A wonderful day

An early start when S collected us at 8am to head for RAF Cosford Air Show in Shropshire, to join the 50,000 plus others who had bought tickets. It’s a very long time since I attended an air show, but aircraft were central to the working lives of my father and B, and to life in general for me.

Having arrived, and with coffee in hand we walked toward some of the static aircraft. I could hear a pipe band in the distance and had to find it.

Only yesterday I found photos of B and the RAF Halton Apprentices Pipe Band in the mid 1960’s. I love the music and found that I had a lump in my throat and was on the verge of tears …..happy ones, not sad ones. My blip for today, irrespective of the other opportunities that were to be on offer.

There was so much to see and do before the flying display started. I won’t try to cover everything but include a few pictures. I’d got my phone camera and S had his, but B in preparation for today retrieved his Nikon. It hasn’t been out of the bag since long before we moved to Uttoxeter, but when most subjects were going to be moving fast in the sky it would beat a phone hands down. They will be seen tomorrow and shared with us.

The weather wasn’t as good as yesterday. It was cloudy and quite chilly with the odd shower, but that didn’t hamper our enjoyment of the stunning displays.

When we lived in Saxilby in Lincolnshire the Red Arrows practiced in the skies seen from the bottom of the garden, and we very much took them for granted. But all of those manoeuvres strung together were awesome.

Even living here in Uttoxeter we get our treats like the A400 Atlas transporter which was killing time in the skies waiting to flypast at the National Memorial Arboretum on the 6th June and the Chinook flying over on 30th May which I blipped.

There was variety with the quiet, gentle Catalina flying boat appearing to drift across the sky and  the noisy, fast Typhoon with it’s new D-Day 80 commemorative colour scheme hurtling about.

This was a first for S who is Canadian, has has some lessons in piloting a helicopter and loves aircraft. A good day for all.

Thank you for for the stars, hearts and comments on my blip event yesterday. I will be back tomorrow to reply individually, as today has been a busy day.
