This far

Commuting back from a Nightshift on a Sunday morning is pretty relaxing as far as these things go. Certainly in good weather anyway.

Pop-Popping around some of the M60 before hopping off at Bredbury, a course was set towards Crown Point, Denton, stopping first at St.Lawrences Church (extra top) This timber frame church is the oldest building in the town and bears a tenuous link to the blip. It is also one of only 29 surviving timber framed churches in England.

Onwards and turning right at Crown Point lead to a recently renovated pub originally called (and still should be really!) The Angel Hotel. After having it's licence revoked for trouble, the pub was renamed The Old Peg for a fresh start...the new name being a nickname for St.Lawrences due to its timber frame construction.

You wouldn't guess from the exterior but the pub is also apparently timber framed although I would need a peek inside to confirm that. It is also the second oldest building in Denton, being licenced as a pub since 1597. It honestly looks newer from the outside but I cannot find anything online to suggest it has undergone anything more major than being extended or refurbished over it's life.

Anyway, name quibbles aside the subject of the blip that caught my eye Friday morning was the Milestone on its facade. The road was for a time a Turnpike. Upon the abolition of the Turnpike Trust in 1879, the nearby tollgates were apparently removed and taken at midnight to be burnt ceremonially at Crown Point. Tolls clearly weren't too popular with the locals!

So with picture taken, your Gal bimbled off to bed for the day. Am now sat inside at work listening to the rain outside. Am going to have to brave it at some point. Anyone seen my umbrella?
