Snuggling Up
I can’t believe it is 6 days since I last Blipped.
We thought Frank would be home by now but over the last few days he has had pain, an upset tummy, and infection after a stent was fitted in the common bile duct. The pain is now controlled with a morphine slow release patch. He’s had IV antibiotics and is more comfortable in a different ward where he has his own en suite room.
Four of the grandchildren have been to visit him, have hugged and kissed him and very directly asked him all the questions they needed to so they can understand what is happening. Lucy the youngest was the main spokesperson.
He explained everything to them in simple terms and they know far more than I would ever have known at the age of 8 and 12. They now know what the cancer is and where it is.
They watched him having meds through a cannula and watched a nurse taking bloods for cultures in little glass bottles.
Lucy asked the Romanian nurse what she would do with the bloods.
Nurse replied - ‘Well, I am from Romania so I will drink it!’
The look on the girl’s faces was a picture then we all burst out laughing. They know all about Transylvania and Count Dracula.
Our family has a weird sense of humour!
Tonight I am on my own after family have left and it is good to have some time alone to think about things, to prepare and to reminisce.
Tomorrow my stepdaughter Anna will arrive with Poppy and Arlo and we’ll go together to visit Frank again.
It has been a rollercoaster of a week and although I am mostly accepting the inevitable every so often it hits me like a bolt from the blue.
Thank you for all the kind and caring comments, stars and hearts - it is so comforting to read them all.
Love Lizzie :-| ❤️X
