Skyline 24
It seems to have been about a year since I was last in the Sydney CBD. Over that period, the amount of money that has been spent on infrastructure, real estate development and heritage restoration has truly been staggering. Heaven only knows where the funds are coming from.
After a ridiculous number of billions of dollars, the new metro system is about to be fully open. Just about all of the inner city motorways have been extended, widened and linked through incomprehensible underground interchanges ... and STILL ... everywhere you look, massive new construction sites dominate the city.
Every year or two, I try to get an updated shot of the city skyline from the middle of the harbour. Since the last such blip it's become almost an entirely new place. Fortunately the most significant heritage buildings from my youth have been retained - if only in the form of facades. At a fundamental level, however, this is no longer the place I grew up to know.
