European Bullhead Fish

It was river day at nature kindergarten. Its meant to be a day of fun where you wear your crocs and shorts, splash about, pond dip and lie on your beach towel. However it's really not warm enough for that this year. We still had great fun though just with far more clothes on than usual. The pond dipping gave us lots of may fly nymphs, and this wee fish. The bullheads are a food source for kingfishers and indicate a healthy river.
Later on I went to see the swans and discovered a Swan drama. Two of the cygnets had swum under the board walk and got stuck.  I was able to get some help, and a plank was 'crowbarred' up and the babies were duly rescued. I was amazed how strong the cygnets were, as they were firmly pulled up out of their trap, examined and kind of thrown back into the pond. The swan expert had magically appeared at this point, to carry out this part of the rescue.
Later on I tidied up, and got jobs done.
