Day 163/24. Glasswing ( greta oto )

The Glasswing butterfly is most commonly found from Central to South America as far south as Chile, with appearances as north as Mexico and Texas.  This butterfly thrives in the tropical conditions of the rainforest in the Central and South American countries.
However I didn't need to go that far. This is in the Natural History Museum in Southsea, Portsmouth. It's free to enter and the small butterfly house is superb. There are literally hundreds of these Glasswings in there now. The population is so large they are self-sustaining in that a colony exists that breeds throughout the year with no need for numbers to be supplemented.
The only butterfly I know with completely transparent wings.
