Roll out of the barrel?

Made for me years ago by an aspiring woody person, from old whisky barrel staves, and needs a little tlc. Upon seeing it a long while back, a great friend of mine took one look and said “I assume it was originally straight?!”

Astonishingly he remains one of my closest friends!
