Wool Merchant's House

on Leicester Road in Shepshed. You may not realise as you travel along the road just how many large houses line it, including this one bordered by a jitty called Challotée. It's probably nineteenth century or maybe late eighteenth century. The front of the house was the home of a well to do family. The back of the house housed the workshops where weavers would come daily to  make hosiery, the staple of Shepshed's fortunes. You can tell they were workshops on the first and second floors from the shape of the windows enabling more light to enter so that the proletariat could work as long as possible.

I took this photo sitting on Cecily with Basil on a lead. We were out fairly late because we'd been expecting a technician to come and replace the gas meter to enable reading to be transmitted directly to Octopus Energy. He didn't arrive until after 2.30 pm. Len was on edge and I just wanted to get out.

Something was wrong with the hub that did the transmitting, a problem we'd had for almost two years. Shell Energy hadn't bothered to look into it. But it's supposed to be working now. To be on the safe side, he also replaced the gas meter.

It was so cold today that I put the central heating on again, as well as wrapping myself up in four layers before going out.
