Y ffŵl ar y bryn ~ The fool on the hill

“As a photographer you have a deep love for light, life and yourself. You know that the eyes of love aren’t blind, they are wide open. Only when your eye, heart and soul shine brighter than the sun, you realize how ordinary it is to love the beautiful, and how beautiful it is to love the ordinary.”
― Marius Vieth

Tra aeth Nor'dzin ar wibdaith gyda Sefydliad y Merched, es i ar wibdaith gyda Sefydliad y Dynion (fi).

Ers fy nhaith i'r Maerdy ym mis Ebrill, roeddwn i eisiau dringo'r bryn uwchben y dre ac yn gweld y golygfeydd. Cychwynnais i'n gynnar ar y 06:22 132 Bws ac roeddwn i ym Maerdy erbyn 07:46. Roeddwn i eisiau llawer o amser oherwydd doeddwn i ddim yn gwybod faint o amser y byddai'r cyfan yn ei gymryd.

Roedd yn hawdd ffeindio'r trac cyntaf i fyny'r bryn, ac yna roedd yn hawdd mynd ar goll - does dim arwyddion ar y bryn. Ar ôl mynd i lawr trac preifat yn gyntaf, ffeindiais i'r ffordd gywir yn y pen draw. Eisteddais i am awr ar graig wastad yn edrych dros y dref. Roedd yr olygfa bod roeddwn i wedi ei heisiau i weld. I lawr isod roedd y dre, mae Maerdy yn amgylchynu gan fryniau (wrth gwrs), caeau, a choetiroedd. Roeddwn i'n gallu gweld y tai, y capeli, i siopau, y ffyrdd, a'r byses. Roeddwn i'n gallu clywed sŵn o lais plant o'r ysgol ar draws y cwm. I fi, gyda digon o amser, a does dim arall i wneud, roedd yr olygfa yn eidylig.

Roedd y tywydd yn newid, weithiau heulwen lachar, weithiau cymylog, weithiau glaw. Yn y pen draw roedd amser i mi symud ac yn gweld os baswn i'n gallu ffeindio ffordd i lawr. Mae popeth yn edrych yn hawdd pan ddydych chi'n i fyny bryn. Dych chi ddim mwy nag milltir neu dau o'r ffordd ond dydych chi ddim yn gwybod sut i gyrraedd yna.

Doeddwn i ddim eisiau mynd yn ôl y ffordd y byddwn i'n dod, ond roeddwn i'n gallu gweld y dre felly roeddwn i'n meddwl i gerdded i'r 'de' ac i 'lawr' byddwn yn cyrraedd ffordd, yn y pen draw. Roedd y ffordd yn anodd. roedd yn serth gyda cherrig rhydd ac roeddwn yn falch o fy ffon (wel monopod a dweud y gwir, ond rydw i'n ei ddefnyddio fel ffon). Ar fy ffordd roedd yn ddiddorol i weld yr hen waliau o gwmpas y caeau. Maent yn atsain o amseroedd blaenorol, pan roedden nhw angen, ond nawr maen nhw'n dechrau cwympo i lawr. Yn y pen draw byddan nhw'n ddim ond creigiau ar y ddaear.

Dechreuais i fy nhaith cerdded uwchben Maerdy, ond des i i lawr, i lawr y ffordd yn Rhedynog. Roeddwn i'n cerdded (mewn cyfanswm) am saith awr, naw cilometr a 15000 cam. Roedd digon o gerdded i fi am un diwrnod, felly penderfynais i dal y bws adre.

Rydw i wedi gweld y cefn gwlad, ond nid rydw i wedi gweld tref y Maerdy mewn gwirionedd, efallai y bydd yn rhaid i mi fynd eto. Unwaith eto ar y bws ffrindiau annwyl…

While Nor'dzin went on an outing with the Women's Institute, I went on an outing with the Men's Institute (me).

Since my trip to Maerdy in April, I wanted to climb the hill above the town and see the scenery. I started early on the 06:22 132 Bus and I was in Maerdy by 07:46. I wanted a lot of time because I didn't know how long it would all take.

It was easy to find the first track up the hill, and then it was easy to get lost - there are no signs on the hill. After going down a private track first, I eventually found the right road. I sat for an hour on a flat rock looking over the town. It was the scene that I wanted to see. Down below was the town, Maerdy is surrounded by hills (of course), fields, and woodlands. I could see the houses, the chapels, the shops, the roads, and the buses. I could hear the sound of children's voices from the school across the valley. For me, with enough time, and nothing else to do, the view was idyllic.

The weather was changing, sometimes bright sunshine, sometimes cloudy, sometimes rain. Eventually it was time for me to move and see if I could find a way down. Everything looks easy when you're up a hill. You're only a mile or two from the road but you don't know how to get there.

I didn't want to go back the way I came, but I could see the town so I thought if I walked 'south' and 'down' I would reach a road, eventually. The road was difficult. it was steep with loose stones and I was proud of my stick (well a monopod actually, but I use it as a stick). On my way it was interesting to see the old walls around the fields. They are an echo of previous times, when they were needed, but now they are starting to fall down. Eventually they will be just rocks on the ground.

I started my walk above Maerdy, but I came down, down the road in Rhedynog. I walked (in total) for seven hours, nine kilometers and 15000 steps. I had enough walking for one day, so I decided to catch the bus home.

I've seen the countryside, but I haven't really seen the town of Maerdy, I may have to go again. Once more on the bus dear friends…
