Getting down to details
Work this morning was frustrating. The med sec had found a secret store of messages that our team had not responded to. I then found more. Some were out of date. The deputy manger kept wandering into our new cupboard/office to tell us how lovely it is. I got her to sit down and role play being a client, in an effort to find a way to reach her. The world and his wife kept wandering in. It's not big enough for more than two people. We had some meetings (three of us) and admired the new lamp and artfully arranged fruit bowl I'd brought in.
Then I realised I had to catch a bus to Nailsworth, but my colleague kindly offered me a lift. She took me accidentally to the wrong street. I knocked on the door of a house, and just as I clocked that it was not the right address, an old lady on a walking frame opened the door. I apologised profusely. Found the right house, but the client was out! Colleague drove me back to office. Said she'd take me home. Unpacked my bags hastily as she was in a rush by then. When I got home, I noticed that I hadn't got my power leads! Steve drove me back to the surgery. Groundhog morning.
Back home, I plugged in and got to work. When I get going, there's no stopping me. Called colleague around three pm about a client who lives in a dirty house and has a (legal) gun and some knives at home. Decided not to plan any home visits! Stopped for lunch.
Took a long break, then worked through till V came round. Have not seen her for almost a month as she has been in South Africa. We went up to the pub for chicken and mango curry with rice and dhal, then came home to carry on catching up. She left about 9.30, and I thought I'd proof read my India book online for the third time. It doesn't get any easier! An hour and a half later, I'd managed four chapters. Fortunately there are only about seventeen in all. I am determined to get it printed ASAP. Recent eye and back troubles have slowed progress.
Tomorrow is, as they say, another day. I hope it's a warmer one. I'm wearing a long sleeved top, a fleece and a scarf. Last night I put an extra blanket on the bed.
I have changed the title of this blip. Originally it was 'Today we have nitty-gritty' but after my sister TML researched this phrase, we found it had racist connotations, dating back to the time of slavery. It was not my intention to use racially offensive language. Everyday we learn something new about the origin of words and phrases in English, and we still have a long way to go.
