Restoration
In the last years of the nineteenth century and in the early years of the twentieth, a lot of very solid, office buildings were built from Sydney sandstone and marble. They will probably stand forever but do need major restoration to remain properly functional at this stage. In some cases the interiors are pretty much gutted and rebuilt from scratch, leaving little more than an exterior facade.
I found this one interesting because it is covered by scaffolding, clothed in a huge open-weave canvas, impregnated with an enormous photograph of the original structure. At street level, there are hoardings plastered with local historic scenes.
For all I know, in other places, this sort of thing may be standard practice, but (as a country bumpkin) I don't get out all that much and it's new to me. The extra is a shot of the similarly heritage listed NSW Dept Education, just up the street, which was restored a few years ago.
