River Crossings
Today was the day of the big race across the East river so an early start. The race was to start at 9.30 and we had to be in Brooklyn Bridge Park by 7.30 to get registered. After being used to the UK races with electronic tags and super efficient organisation this was a little more chaotic. The water was a balmy 72 so no need for wet suits but it didn't taste good. We set of in wave of 50 and battled across to Manhattan against the cross currents. The crowd was from all over the world and we apparently only swam 1k. I thought the swim was longer but it certainly seemed that when the kicking a scrapping that involved going around the buoys. I managed it in 25mins from the official results which is not bad.
In the evening I headed out of town to find a quiet hotel with a good bath, I ended up in the Pennsylvanian town of Easton which was celebrating heritage day. This town was one of three that the Declaration of Independence was read in, so they celebrate this each year with fire works. It is also a border town of New Jersey and Pen with this bridge across the Delaware river.
