Cleaning Crew

After break, when the students go back into class, the bird cleaning crew come out. Today we had an abundance of chaffinches and sparrows darting about and squabbling over the choicest crumbs.

Not a patch on the excitement of yesterday's native owl, today's finch is descended from the ones that were introduced to New Zealand in the 1860's by the European settlers. Apparently they missed their common garden birds.

Thanks to everyone who commented, starred and hearted yesterday's morepork. You all took him to the front spotlight page - quite chuffed!
I had hoped to go back today if he was still around, but he apparently flew off last night. Although I was disappointed to hear I wasn't going to get to see him again, I'm glad to know he got away okay.
