Kite at Rest

Several Mississippi Kites spend late Spring and Summer with us here in our neighborhood. This is the southern most boundary of their breeding range. These graceful fliers hunt large insects, lizards and snakes in the top branches of tall trees. Then they typically consume their prey while in flight. I don't often see them sitting still, perched as this one was this morning.
