Staying Low
A morning of low clouds and occasional drizzle. My first idea was to take the bus to Sils-Maria and walk into one of the beautiful valleys above that village, but once I got there, I could see they were in the clouds as well. So I went on to Maloja and walked back all along the lakes of Sils and Silvaplana.
The main blip is a view of the first lake when I set off. It may look dull, but my day wasn’t boring at all. I saw so many more beautiful flowers, watched birds in the trees and fish in the crystal clear lakes, encountered cows, goats and donkeys, and generally enjoyed having the path to myself for most of the way. Later in the season it’s extremely popular with hikers and mountain bikers, and I don’t think I have ever walked it as carefree as I did today.
The last extra is a privately owned castle near Silvaplana, where my walk ended after about 23,000 steps.
