Salsify - Bud, Flower And Seedhead
I walked to Wetherby this morning, to collect the new keys that I had ordered to replace the one I lost last month…a journey of 4.25miles - and I timed it to be able to get the bus home!
Stopped briefly on the way to photograph this Salsify. Pictured are a bud, a flower and a seedhead.
The seed head is an amazing structure - it is huge - like a dandelion on steroids!!
It is also known as ‘Jack-go-to-bed-at-noon’ - as the flower opens in the morning sunshine and then closes up by midday…
Quite a bit warmer today - I note that the wind direction has changed to a more southerly direction ..southwest.
