Pleach

Archbishop Markus Sittikus built Hellbrun about 400 years ago, as a summer day palace where he could relax and entertain visitors and he loved to trick them with fountains which would suddenly shoot up without warning.  There are fountains everywhere even in part of the building shooting out from all angles so we looked for wet parts of the path to ensure that we would not be caught.  Sittikus would sit on the only seat surrounding the table here which did not have a fountain in the seat and he knew where to stand near other fountains to stay dry.   Water from the many springs also power several little moving tableaux and a large mechanical theatre with almost 200 figures which depict life in a baroque city.
Later we visited the castle fortress in nearby Salzburg..
