At Withuis
History of the petrol station
The patrol station in the hamlet of Withuis from 1953 was designed by architect Ben Schinkel and is a typical building in the reconstruction style. The Colex petrol station was used as a petrol station from its construction in 1953 until 1983. Due to the construction of the A2, the border crossing to Belgium at Withuis was abolished and the petrol station was used less and less. After the building lost its original function, it was used for years as a parking area for agricultural vehicles and increasingly fell into disrepair.
BOEi is a non-profit social organization and has been designated as a Professional Organization for Monument Conservation (POM) by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. To make new projects possible, BOEi issues subordinated bonds. The deposit of these bonds is fully used to finance projects such as this unique Caltex petrol station in Withuis.
I don't think I've ever taken a photo of this beautiful building even though we cycle past it so often.
