What have the Romans ever done for us?

Quite a lot locally including the first bridge crossing of the River Leader on the York to Edinburgh road. This magnificent viaduct completed in 1865 is obviously not their handiwork, but old Queen Vic once described it as, “Immense”…difficult to argue with her.

Our breakfast table view looks south east to The Cheviot (and the Cheviot range more generally) and I’m already enjoying the changing views over my marmalade toast and coffee. This morning some cumulonimbus clouds were massing over the range and obscuring the hill top. They looked powerful and a bit pissy downy! That’s a technical term.
