Shelter
Fathers Day but the focus on this occasion was the unveiling of the headstone for R’s father, who died ten years ago but for various reasons the headstone has only just been installed. To mark the occasion we travelled to Hartley in Kent where one of R’s cousins still looks after his parents’ home. We had a drink and picnic in the garden there, which we used to do when R’s father was alive, and I had forgotten that in that garden there is an old air raid shelter as in the photo. Apparently it was built by the cousin’s father between the wars and used frequently in WW2 as bombs were dropped in the area as German planes discharged their loads on the flight back after raids on London. An interesting day but R is very much under the weather now, unfortunately
