Malcesine
After a spectacular thunderstorm and heavy rain last night, we woke to fresh snow on the distant mountains. This was the view of Malcesine from the bottom of the path that leads down from our hotel to the lake.
We spent most of today exploring Malcesine and visiting the castle which contains a museum of the natural history of the area and another telling the story of how the Venetians hauled a fleet of boats over the mountains to the top of the lake so they could surprise the Milanese who were controlling the lake from Sirmione.
Afterwards we walked north along the lakeside stopping for lunch at a cafe where we sat at a table out on the jetty.
