Wild about orchids

As far as we were concerned this was a weed, but then a knowledgeable friend pointed out that it was actually a spotted wild orchid. (the leaves are spotted)

So we had a closer look and, as in this shot, you can see the tiny orchid heads. Each one is only about 6mm across, and so delicate. Quite amazing!

Until this year we only ever had one, and we're glad we didn't pull it out with the rest of the weeds. This year it has a companion, so it looks like they're quite happy in our garden - and we're now happy to have them.
