Pyramids Small and Large

There's much more than these tiny pyramids, carefully piled alongside the steep and winding path to the stars of the area - the pyramids in Zone, Lombardia.

Lake Iseo was formed by glaciers, and one of the moraines (piles of rock debris) has a very rare mix of tough sandstone, clay and smaller limestone pieces. As slightly acidic rain falls, some of the sediment dissolves whilst the clay runs down and coats the outcrop below. End result is columns some 30m high, capped by huge single boulders.

Read more online as I can only whet your appetite at best. The extras are both panoramic to some degree, an attempt to hint at the wonder of this area.

Thanks for hosting tiny Tuesday, SK.
