Battle with slugs

For the first time today it’s been warm and dry enough to do some serious gardening.  And I was delighted to see the first of our giant lilies ( Cardiocrinum Giganteum )  in flower.
But appalled to find so many big juicy slugs feasting on the hostas, how do you dispose of them humanely?  Throwing them into a neighbour’s garden may not work because they have strong homing instincts.
