I Like It
Gerry and the Pacemakers 1963
Well, here I am shocked, stunned and quite delighted to have made it (in)to the Hot 100!
So how's it been?
Been thinking about this quite a bit over the past week or so as the great day loomed and, having seen lots of super fun blipaversary uploads, I was keen to try and get a novel 100 but nothing had come to me and as of midnight last night...I had NO CLUE what do for the big day ....then driving home from
the wedding last night just after 1 am (and so safely into the 4th July, even without moving my camera into summertime) I saw before me the most glorious (almost?) big fat full moon with a wonderful horizontal cloud across the middle and I almost squealed with delight....it would take a bit of doing but three moons, the first one rotated through 90 degrees and WHAT a 100 pic I had. Fabulous. But no, as soon as I got off the motorway and was able to stop the clouds had gathered and the moon was gone. I drove around for ten minutes looking for it but no, the rain started and I knew I was out of luck...so y'all will just have to imagine how super that might have been.
And this story, I fear, has been a bit of a feature of my blip time....but I'm getting ahead of myself..... Going back the the very beginning, I started Blip without ever finding the notion of blogging attractive and saw myself more likely to think of and set up song illustrations (ie title and idea before pic) far more often than finding titles for pics taken "on the hoof".....and indeed I have spent some time walking and driving after shots I could picture so well in my head but in the end just couldn't find...as last night....and have found that, looking back, I really haven't done as well, to my mind, as I had hoped to when measured against my inital vision. As things turned out, I have had some success with blips of that type, and I have had some supersuprise success *blush* with random nonsense that just kinda happened, and I've had to resort to some that were pretty poor, but them's the breaks when you have a busy life and sometimes not a terribly long time to plan or go a hunt.
Of the whole 100 I think this is my favourite.
I rarely go out without the camera, I look at my world much more closely and am quite sure I see things I didn't see before, and I am going to spend tomorrow looking for another evening class to go to - hopefully I will be able to find one that follows on from the absolute beginner class I took at the start of the year.
I do hope some folks have enjoyed looking at my better blips, I hope that some have maybe been reminded of songs from their past and had a little singalong...but most of all I just hope that most do "get it" and maybe like the idea that even the most mundane of scenes can have a song.
So what's today's I Like It all about?
Well, not having an illustrated 100 to show, I thought I'd go back to the start of my whole photo journey and share the first of my own shots that I ever felt the desire to frame and put on show. These are what first got me thinking about photography as something special.
Taken just outside Salalah in the south of Oman out of the back window of a bus....here comes a local lady from the left, note the slightly African influence in her dress, peculiar to this part of the world, she doesn't look particularly afluent, probably not got a whole lot of Rials to spend, I'm thinking she's heading into the cold-store for rice or bread maybeto feed her enormous, shoeless family....and what does she come out with....you might just be able to make it out....40 Rothmans! So maybe not quite the poor peasant we westerners think we see all too often in abroadshire.
And of course I Like being here.
I'm going to try and keep going daily....may be fairly mundane for another month or so but do tune your wireless back in at the beginning of August as I am off to somewhere slightly hexotic that I don't think has featured here very much and I do hope to up the quality somewhat for a week at least.
Cassandra
PS Many thanks for all the comments so far, I for one am quite delighted to get the odd "nice" or "like" !
