Today's the day ......................... to swelter

Phew - it's been hot today.

We're not very good round here in the heat. We don't know what to do with ourselves when the temperatures soar. We go limp as a lettuce, fall asleep in the middle of the afternoon and generally are not what you might call fit for purpose.

On the other hand - lash us with horizontal Lake District rain or send in the drizzle for days on end. Take away the sun and blue skies and give us grey - as long as there is extreme weather involving lots of water - we'll unite in the common cause and take it all in our stride.

As they say round here - there's nowt as queer as folk ....................
