75008 simmers gently before departing for Bodiam

with the last train of the day.

Plenty of people around even on the first diesel railcar departure. The railcar was busy on its final return working from Bodiam as was the steam set on its final working.

It was a somnambulistic sort of day. A flurry of activity when each of the 5 trains departed then a period of quiet with only the sound of voices gently wafting across from the platform and the carriage and wagon works.

A throwback to quiet country stations between trains so beloved by John Betjeman, David St John Thomas and others on those much lamented branch lines. All that was needed was the signalman tending his vegetables and the station’s floral displays between trains.

At 21.50 this evening it is the summer solstice. Summer hasn’t really started yet we’ve reached the maximum hours of daylight. I see in Sanday in the Orkneys sunrise is 03.54am and sunset 10.30pm. Here is Kent it is 04.41 and 21.17
