Naples, Florida...
A beautiful area, playground of the extremely rich! Many of the wonderful homes here are occupied only 2-4 weeks of the year and lie empty the rest of the time, except for the local people employed to maintain them. They do therefore provide a useful source of employment, but it doesn't sound like very satisfying work. In the afternoon we went for a cruise on "The Double Sunshine" which took us "up close and personal" to some of these lovely homes. In the Port Royal area only 12% of the homes are owned by people who occupy them as their main residence...
The lots cost 10 million dollars or more, and if you have that kind of money to spend you don't want someone else's dream house on it, so people buy these wonderful houses then pull them down to build their own - "tear-downs" they call them... Nowt so queer as folk....
