Nuclear test medal

I was in church this morning and a gentleman came in to ask if he could take a picture. We got talking and I asked him if he was visiting. He told me that he had been based in Plymouth in the Royal Navy before he emigrated to Australia. He told me that he had been at the Christmas Island Nuclear Bomb Tests and had recently been given a medal to commemorate that event. He was ninety and felt that this would be the last trip back home!

Extra: the medal has the King’s head on the reverse!
