Sgwarnog: In the Field

Trophy

For the third consecutive year I’ve spent a day at the Ilkley Trophy tennis tournament - an event on the Men’s ATP Challenger Tour and the women’s ITF W100 World Tennis Tour.

The event forms part of the brief grass court season, and  provides a route through to Wimbledon qualification. The ten singles players I watched today were world-ranked in the range 95-173, but included former world number seven David Goffin. It was a very hot and sunny day, a contrast to the rain disrupted days the tournament had experienced earlier in the week.

For my records, in a full day (10:30-19:45) I saw six games. Winners are highlighted in bold.

R16 Men Napolitano v Bonzi 1-6, 4-6
R16 Men Broom v Svajda 6-3, 3-6, 2-6
QF Men Goffin v Atmane 6-3, 6-4
QF Men Mayot v Harris 6-3, 6-2
QF Women Stanek v Jacqemot 4-6, 6-7
QF Women’s Doubles John-Baptiste & Roach v Corley & Corley 3-6, 5-7

Today’s image is Harold Mayot (France) who is one of those who has won through to the semi-finals.

Wildlife interest came courtesy of two Oystercatcher chasing off a Red Kite directly over Centre Court.
