Annoying. Lifted the carpet in Eva's room. Planned to sand off the boards and wax/stain them. Unfortunately the floor isn't in good condition and has been patched badly. Really disappointed. Why would you not square this off instead of cutting the board round it?! What a mess. 

Initially I thought we could get some reclaimed boards and swap them in for the botched ones. But apparently the width of these boards is very rare. They only used boards like ours briefly in Edwardian times, then they went to a different width. We did find some on eBay but they were miles away and silly money. We can't afford to replace the whole floor so think we're going to paint it.
