Gardening

Today has been much warmer, it almost felt like summer. We live on top of a hill which makes us “two coats” colder than most places. The garden struggles at the best of times but this year the wind has been especially cold. The veg patch is very small & we’d starve if we had to rely on it for food. The runner beans have suffered in the cold winds but hopefully they will start to catch up with some warmth. I think the french beans are beyond help, I’ll be very surprised if they produce a crop. The one courgette is flowering but the beetroot look very sad. Spring onions & leeks are looking ok & the broad beans are flowering well so I live in hope. The greenhouse is faring a bit better but both my cucumbers have rotted off so no cucumbers this year, the tomatoes, peppers, chillies & lettuce leaves are coming on well.
I’ve pottered in the garden, planted the Achillea I purchased on Sunday, repotted some houseplants, tied up the clematis & dead headed the roses.
J collected his new glasses & I waited for a prescription in the pharmacy, fortunately it was ready so it was only a 20 minute wait, they’re really struggling to keep up with the demand & it often takes much longer, we did a food shop whilst we were in town.
A very chilled catch up day.
