ScG Bàgh Mòr or ON lægðar höfn

This is the excellent natural harbour about a kilometre from our home. It has a narrow drying entrance but once in, a boat is secure.
ScG Bàgh Mòr = 'big bay' is pretty prosiac but is a topogrpahical fit. The nearby set of social housing just visible on the skyline is called Lag na h-Aibhne which means in ScG hollow of the river'. The river however there is at best a trickle.- more appropriately ScG allt = 'stream or burn' perhaps.
However ON lægðar höfn which looks very differnet but would sound very similar, and indeed the last component has been a cause of confusion in other place-names. This means 'haven of the hollow' and to my mind is a much better description of the harbour here.
Should you be so interested, I have written more on this in my blog here.
