Wall Walkers 4 - Walltown Crags to Steel Rigg
Caroline and I took a bus from The Sill to Walltown Crags. It was a bit of a Magical Mystery Tour via Haltwhistle and Greenhead. At one point I thought we’d got on the wrong bus!
The first of 10 ascents began early in the walk. No kidding. I was pleased to take a pit stop at Cawfields Quarry. Loos and a coffee van, just the thing. The chatty lady at the coffee van was called Tanya, she was great crack. Onwards and upwards over the many false summits. We eventually reached Whinshields, it’s the highest point on the wall and I believe the mid point. We could see Steel Rigg at this point, dwarfed by Whinsields trig point.
It was all down hill to The Sill from there. We tucked into our obligatory cheese scone with chutney. I gave it 9/10 because it wasn’t warmed. We had a mooch round the ‘Makers Market’ before heading home.
I’m very grateful for Caroline’s, patience, Percy Pigs and encouragement. We walked 7.2 miles in total.
