Vasa

Awesome!

I've been planning to visit the Vasa Museum for about 10 years, since I first heard her story on a Nautical Archaeology training course. The Vasa is Sweden's version of the Mary Rose. Vasa sank on her maiden voyage on 10th August 1628. She lay on the seabed for 333 years before she was raised in 1961. She is remarkably intact & now has her own museum in Stockholm.

We arrived to find a mass exodus taking place, the fire alarm going off and the staff looking a bit worried. I wasn't thrilled at the prospect of arriving just in time to see the place burn down, but fortunately it was a false alarm. After thoroughly checking the building we were allowed in.

She's was certainly worth the wait, she's awesome, massive and amazingly well preserved. We spent the whole afternoon there and could have stayed longer. What a fabulous experience.
