A Thousand a Day

Kirk Fell

What a day! That was probably one of the toughest days I've had in the Lakeland fells. I decided against taking on the direct approach up the nose of Kirk Fell, opting instead to go up to Black Sail Pass and round the back to find (at the second attempt) a challenging scramble up to the summit plateau.
I felt cheated after all that, to spend most of my time at the top in cloud, though that did clear momentarily to afford me this view of Pillar and some of the other peaks of the Mosedale Horseshoe.
The descent was no breeze, either, but I guess if things are worth doing, they shouldn't be too easy. It also gave me great views of the mighty Great Gable :o)
